Media Day, Meet the Team, Morning Radio

MEDIA DAY

Monday was a big day at Parkview Field because it was Media Day. If you’ve never been to a media day, essentially what happens is that all of the local media comes to the TinCaps locker room to do interviews and find out about that year’s team. There’s lots of excitement as the players are picking out their lockers and uniform numbers, and as the reporters, photographers and videographers are working hard to get the right shots and get the interviews that they need.

My part in all of that was making sure that every reporter who needed to interview a player was able to find the player in the clubhouse. Imagine walking into a room of 25 unfamiliar faces and trying to pick out the one you’re looking for. It’s can be challenging, especially when people are moving all over the place from the lounge, to their locker, to the workout area and everywhere in between.

WANE-TV has interviews with Manager Jose Valentin, Hitting Coach Jacque Jones, Donavan Tate, Austin Hedges, Cody Hebner, Joe Ross and Adys Portillo.

The Journal Gazette tells us that Cody Hebner is the Opening Day starter and reveals the pitching rotation to begin the year.

The News-Sentinel caught up with Donavan Tate.

The Journal Gazette has a photo gallery of the players arriving at Parkview Field.

WEDNESDAY WORKOUT

If you want to catch a sneak peek of this year’s team, make sure to head over to the stadium on Wednesday evening when you get out of work. The TinCaps are scheduled to work out at 5 PM, an event that’s open to the public, and then there will be an autograph signing on the concourse at the conclusion of the workout.

THANK YOU

I was on Fort Wayne’s Morning News with Charly Butcher and Jim Shovlin on Tuesday morning to talk about the season. I’d like to say thanks to the folks over at WOWO (now on 92.3 FM!) for having me on the show. My alarm clock went off at 5 AM so that I could make it over to the studio in time! The next time I see that time on a clock, I think it might be on the return end of a TinCaps road trip. Morning radio is no easy gig, and anyone who works in that side of the business wakes up much earlier than 5 AM, and they do it five days a week.

Here’s the audio from that interview:

MUSICAL GUEST

Green Day (covering John Lennon), take it away!
